alright folks, you wanted it so here it is…pictures of my mom’s fridge. because i live at home it’s somehow also my fridge. go me loser.
anyhow, i like to think that this is a pretty normal fridge for a german household. because we go shopping more frequently, it is less filled and stuff inside tends to be more fresh or with less preservatives. i say tends because mayo in europe and mayo in the states is pretty much the same in my opinion.
so let’s talk about the pictures. the full view of the fridge gives you an initial idea of the main difference: the size. there are only five shelves and two veggie compartments. and they are smaller (i think a fair guess is they are half the size) than an american fridge.smaller means less stuff fits in so less mess. still plenty of salmonella potential if you ask me.

as usual, our fridge is rather empty because of the more frequent shopping and we have lot’s of veggies because i am a vegetarian and need fresh fruits and veggies more than anything else. on the largest shelve next to the watermelon covered in tin foil you can see the average sized milk carton that you can buy in germany. it hold one liter of milk which is about a quarter of a gallon. there is nothing larger to buy when it comes to milk. we also have a little bit of cheese and stuff but hardly any jars of anything. no salsa, no chopped garlic, no jalapeños, no mayo.
i also posted a close up of the veggie compartments. my mom cleaned them a few days ago so i’m allowed to post that. in the summer months we eat lots of cucumbers (the long green things, yes, these are the cucumbers you get here, and yes, the peel is edible) and tomatoes. our own tomato plants on the balcony are on the weaker side of life this year so we won’t be having any home grown veggies.
when you look at the door close ups you see lots of chocolate. i don’t understand why because i don’t really eat chocolate but maybe my mom thinks i need some comfort when getting rejection letters.
in the door compartments you also see two bottles of ketchup (i don’t know why), a glass of apple sauce (yet again, smaller than in the states), some joghurt drink and a really unpleasant salad dressing. i don’t understand why there is nothing between the bottom compartment and the next one up. if you put a wine bottle there it’s still about five inches of space. if i would design a fridge it would look a lot different.
oh, by the way, please excuse the random place these pictures took inside the post. i tried to fix it but i’m too tired to try again. i hope you liked the sneak peak into my fridge. it’s really not a whole lot to explain but if you have questions, please go ahead and ask!
have a great sunday!

I really do wish our fridges were less deep, so things wouldn’t get lost in the back!
How often do you go food shopping?
we shop for fresh food like veggies and stuff about three times a week and staple food maybe once a week or so. ok, we are only two people right now with the occasional feeding of my sister and her daughter and then my uncle….ok, i think we shop for more than just two people
