a friend of mine is a first time teacher. she recently got her masters and is now pursuing a doctorate degree. that includes some teaching duty for her. because this is her first time in front of a class, she wants to do everything right.
one of her rules in class is a twice absent-only rule. so, of course, students who already missed a class or two are struggling to keep within the limits. recently, a student emailed her saying he can’t attend class because he was put in isolation because of suspected swine flu. i know what you’re thinking, bogus. that’s what i thought as well. but he attached some document by the local authorities that confirmed that he is to be isolated until it is certain he is free of swine flu.
by the way, he was infected (or not) while being in new york. that’s what you get from going shopping instead of studying
sorry, i know this can be a deadly disease and i apologize if i offended anyone. but i think it’s very absurd and totally funny that out of the many reasons to flunk class (i was bitten by a dog, i overslept, i couldn’t find the classroom etc.) my friend gets “i have swine flu”
