oh, life is good. i had an ok night, and went all happy to get breakfast. i forgot what a “continental breakfast” actually is but the worst thing was, the lady asked me in a very foreign accent if i was “alone”. i figured she meant if it was just me or some more people coming so i said that it’s just me. and, get this, she then asked me to move to another table, a smaller one, because i sat at a table for 4. i was flabbergasted and she motioned me to move to the smaller table. mind you, the room was almost empty and there were 10 other large tables available.
i then said “are you saying i cannot sit where i want to sit?” to which she replied “i see, where do you want to sit then?” again, motioning to the smaller table. then i said “well, i would like to sit here, which is why i sat down here initially”. that caused some of the guests present to chuckle and she let go of me.
i mean, seriously. if the room had been crowded i would have automatically taken a smaller table. but it was almost empty! are you kidding?
whatever, i did some work and then went shopping. boy, it’s hot in london today! and really sunny, not a cloud in the sky. just perfect weather. except that i was wearing a long sleeve. i desperately needed something short. and what happens when you really really need something? you can’t find anything suitable.
so i went here and there and everywhere, and i started to wonder about my shopping skills until i saw a banana republic store. i am addicted to their style and it’s a blessing there is no store anywhere close to where i could easily reach it. so i got some nice new office stuff and put on one blouse right away.
i managed to work down my shopping list – mainly because i have noticed that british women are just bigger. i had such a hard time to find things that remotely fit me…very strange! ok, even in germany there’s not many 34’s or xs around, but certainly every store has something. not here. it starts at a 36, if you’re lucky.
so i keept on looking and in the end managed to buy a beautiful black dress reduced from 60 pounds to 18!!! yay! what a bargain! i will wear it with pride
also got some accessories. but i did not spend as much as i thought i would. mainly because i don’t like the british style (if that what’s in store here is is british style), and of size. and the stuff that i did like was a little too pricy. there’s a limit a t-shirt should cost…seriously.
now i’m doing some more work and then get ready for the event i came here for.
best,
franzi

~ franzi
