smart ass saturday

finally, another smart post. i actually do not feel smart at all because the facebook question is still unresolved. maybe by next week’s edition that question has been answered.

so, i learned that there is a group of islands called turks and caicos islands. smart franzi thought, ok, turk something, that must be somewhere close to turkey then. aehm, no. it’s not. it’s a group of tiny islands in the west indies, sort of north of haiti just much smaller. it’s a former british territory but hey, the brits have been everywhere so that’s no real surprise.

and i also learned about the storyline in la traviata (the opera). a woman suffering from tuberculosis is torn between men, her life is being held against her and just when everything turns out picture perfect she dies. oh how operaesk. i had to look it up because i’ll go and see that opera tonight and i felt like i should learn at least something about it because i clearly won’t understand the italian.

the other stuff i learned, i forgot instantly. because that’s how i roll.

smart ass saturday

as usual, this comes a day late. hey, don’t want to break with traditions, do you?

i think this is a particular clever one, again noticed by a friend, because i use this almost daily and had no idea about the extra feature.

did you know that if you go on google maps and you plot in the address and then you get a map and you take the orange figurine above the plus and minus thingy and put it on the street somewhere and then you see 360 degrees how it looks in that street? doesn’t work in all locations which is why sometimes the figurine stays gray.

i think this is very cool and helps people like me who are geographically challenged and sometimes need a visual clue as to where to turn ;-)

thanks M for filling me in on this google map extra!

smart ass saturday

ok, i feel pressured and honored to keep this category going. all because of a friend who mentioned me smart assing on her blog.

so i know, you are just dying to find out what i learned this week. and i realized i skipped a week so technically i should have a lot more to post about. i don’t because i just forget! all the time. i think i need a notebook.

so here’s the smartness coming right at ya! watch out.

johannes kepler, astronomist and otherwise also smart person, moved from one crooked house to the next just two years before his death. why i don’t really know. maybe he needed more space. or the view was better from the other house that is located just a few meters from the other one. who knows. people move for the most stupid reasons.

popeye was not the initial main character of the popeye series. a friend told me that the story was about olive oyl and her sisters instead and popeye just appeared in a guest role and then was brought back due to popular demand. wiki says that’s true. smart friends i have!

sometime between me going to school and now they changed the rules of volleyball. saw a game the other day and apparently, there is now a person who is being switched back in and out of the game but he doesn’t change positions as everyone else is (and what i remember). oh, and there is no play for finding out who gets to serve. every time the ball touches the ground it’s a point for one team. makes up for a fast game.

uh, i guess that was already it. i’m not delving into the issues of bodily fluids and the challenge of keeping them in while they want out. that’s not a nice topic to write about.

enjoy your weekend, and have a great start into the new work week.
